All welcome to the book launch for 'Life in the Psalms: Contemporary Meaning in Ancient Texts' by Patrick Woodhouse. The book is the Mowbray Lent book for 2016.  The author is a writer and Anglican priest who was for thirteen years a Canon of Wells Cathedral. More information on the event here.
Patrick's previous books include Beyond Words, a guide to a contemplative way of prayer; With You is the Well of Life, a book of prayers for private and public use; and Etty Hillesum, a Life Transformed, which explores the life and writings of the young Dutch Jewish woman who kept a diary in the darkest days of the war, and died in Auschwitz in 1943.  Patrick now lives with his wife Sam, in south Somerset.

Tuesday 22 December, 7.30pm
An Evening with Trumpeter John Holt, Sophia Grech & Duncan Honeybourne
at All Saints Church, Wyke Regis
Sophia Grech, who has proved to be a great friend of All Saints’ Church, will be coming along with an American trumpeter, who is known internationally and Duncan is going to play the piano. They will be performing some Christmas music including, ‘O Holy Night’, ‘White Christmas’, Mozart’s ‘Alleluja’, Handel’s ‘Let the Bright Seraphim’, Torelli’s Trumpet Concerto in D and some Gershwin songs.
This promises to be a wonderful evening. We hope you will take a break from Christmas preparations and come along to hear some sublime music. Page here.
There will be a retiring collection and refreshments will be available after the recital.

Tuesday 22 December, 7.30pm
Blue Light Carol Service
at St Mary’s Church, Bridport
The Chief Fire Officer, Darran Gunter, and the Chief Constable, Debbie Simpson, will join the High Sherriff of Dorset, Mrs Jennifer Coombes, and the Police and Crime Commissioner, Martin Underhill, at South Street. This ever-popular service attracts wide support for our local emergency services and will be followed by seasonal refreshments. There will be a collection for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. This service gives an opportunity for a seasonal celebration for those who will work or be on call on Christmas Day.

Saturday 26 December, 12.30-1.15pm
Following the West Bay swim on Boxing Day,
Churches Together in Bridport and District will provide coffee, cakes and carols in St John’s Church, West Bay.
An informal gathering over coffee and cake will allow people to warm up! If you have family and friends coming to see the swim, why not stop off at church before you leave for home and enjoy some seasonal songs in a warm and friendly atmosphere?

‘Two Minds One Heart’

Every time we celebrate the Eucharist or Communion service in the Abbey we take part in a celebration that has come down to us through the centuries, a multi levelled spiritual experience. In this talk we will begin to unpack some insights which might help us understand the exciting dynamics behind the words and music. There are many different levels of meaning and understanding, and any one of them can offer us a way in, open fresh windows and provide us with fresh insight.

‘Holy Mysteries?’

Canon Eric Woods, the Vicar of Sherborne, asks ‘What exactly is the Eucharist, the Holy Communion, the Mass, the Lord's Supper?’ He will suggest that it is essentially the drama of our salvation, in which Christ's saving work is made present again for us, and in which we are all caught-up as the 'dramatic company' - together taking, blessing, breaking and sharing, and in the process being re-fashioned and renewed as a Holy Community.

Prom Praise
at the Lighthouse Concert Hall, Poole
All Souls Orchestra directed by Noel Tredinnick are bringing their flagship event to the Lighthouse Concert Hall. At least 120 singers will form the Regional Choir who will perform choral works and support the soloists and the 1,400 members of the audience in the hymn singing. Individual members of the RSCM and affiliated Choirs in the Region are invited to form the core of the Regional Choir - please contact Anthony Jenner, Co-chairman of Prom Praise Wessex, via a.jenner1@btinternet.com.
